Denise Sherman, Music Director, is a
nationally recognized vocalist, educator, composer, actor and
music director. She is a featured vocalist on award winning
recordings and has co-produced and recorded her own
compositions with Grammy award nominated and winning
producers and musicians. Denise has received radio air-play
throughout the US and has been a featured vocalist and been
recorded with internationally known recording artists such as
the “Queen of Blues” Koko Taylor and performed live with
and is featured on a recording with Blues legend, Pinetop
Perkins. Some other award winning Blues legends Denise has
had the privilege of performing with are Taj Mahal, Yank
Rachell, Keb Mo’ and the Uppity Blues Women.
Her tremendous diversity in vocal styles have also featured
her singing with Jazz greats, Diane Sure and Sunny
Wilkinson; national award winning children’s singer and
songwriter, Thaddeus Rex; Broadway’s Timothy Shew and
internationally known opera star, Alan Held. She also had a
great time doing a performance with Rock-n-Roll’s Cheap
Trick and opening for bands and musicians like Blues
Traveler and Lenny Kravitz at Verizon Music Center.
She has performed all over the country in various venues
from theatres to churches and cathedrals and her voice has
been featured in over a dozen radio and television
commercials. Currently, she loves being a part of a great
rock-n-roll group called, The Heart and Soul Band.
Denise is also expressing her talents and her degree in
Music Education by being an in-demand voice teacher and
performance coach since 1992. Many of her clients earn
musical theatre or vocal performance scholarships to the
leading universities around the US; perform all over the
country in television, theatre, theme parks such as Disney
World, and even Disney in China! Several have been
featured in print ads for national magazines as well. Her
door is open to all levels of talent though and she also
teaches those who just love to express the joy of music
through song!
Denise is thrilled to be the Music Director for Unity of
Indianapolis where for over a decade, she has and
continues to produce, direct, and arrange all of the music
for our services and most special events such as a recent
Metaphysics of OZ production. She directs and is a member
of our Praise Band, “Spirit of Praise.” At Unity, she has the
great joy and privilege of working with extraordinary
musicians from Indianapolis and nationally recognized
musical talent from all over the country.
“Spirit through Music” is her moto and more than that,
her life journey as she continues to express her gifts from
