Chaplain Program
As our church continues to grow, our
Chaplains serve to meet the needs of our
extended community.  Completing the
Chaplain training and "being" a Chaplain is
transformational soul work.  We invite you
to prayerfully consider becoming a Chaplain.
It is a unique service that differs from many
of the other volunteer opportunities in terms
of training, commitment level and respon-
sibilities.  The following information is
provided as a basic introduction to the
concept and how it works.
What is a Chaplain?
Someone who:
Will create and hold a sacred
     space with another person
Will lovingly listen
Will pray with others
Holds what is shared in strictest of
confidence.
What if I've never done anything like this before?
No prior experience in prayer or praying with others is required to serve as a Chaplain.
You must be a church member, or willing to become a member at the next membership
class, and be willing to deepen your spiritual path through prayer and service by making this
commitment to our Chaplain program.
What is the time commitment?
Chaplains make a one-year commitment in fulfilling their
responsibilities.  These responsibilities include, but are
not limited to:
Serving at two services per month.
Two to four hours of wellness calling per month.
One two-hour Chaplain meeting per
month.
Visitation to members who are ill and request a
visit.
Yearly off-site intensive training.
How does this differ from
hospital chaplains?
Unlike hospital chaplains, Unity chaplains are
not ordained or certified.  Unity
chaplains are trained to do four things:
Hold sacred space
Listen
Pray
Keep a confidence
Unity chaplains are not trained to go out
and "minister" to the community-at-large, and are trained as a lay resource to help meet the
pastoral care needs within our church
community.
