Insights from Bob & Carla
British theologian Frederick William Robertson wrote,
“Never does a man [or woman] know the force that is in
him [or her] till some mighty affection or grief has huma-
nized the soul.”

We’ve heard it said that we are most alive when we
experience love or grief. Both call forth compassion.
Part of the symbolism of the virgin birth is the birth of
compassion within us. Part of the symbolism of the
crucifixion is to call forth our compassion.

Often we are quick to embrace love but are also quick
to shun grief. Yet, both can call forth the best in us. Joy,
gentleness, sorrow and compassion also show us the
depth of our connection with God and others.
Embrace them and allow them to call forth the mighty
truth of who you are.
